Peel Regional Police have announced significant progress in the investigation of the $20-million gold heist that took place at Toronto Pearson International Airport over a year ago. The arrests come following an extensive probe into the incident, which occurred on the evening of April 17, 2023, when a cargo container containing gold and other valuables was stolen from the airport’s holding cargo facility.

Until now, no suspects had been identified in connection with the audacious theft, which sent shockwaves through the aviation and security sectors. However, authorities have now revealed that arrests have been made, marking a significant breakthrough in the case.

The investigation, codenamed Project 24K, has been underway for months, with Peel Regional Police detectives leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice. The results of the operation will be unveiled during a press conference scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Toronto Pearson International Airport is a crucial hub for the transportation of gold mined in Canada, facilitating its distribution to customers worldwide. The stolen cargo, believed to have been stored in a container measuring approximately five to six square feet, was deposited at an Air Canada warehouse shortly after the flight landed on the fateful day.

Last year, Brinks International initiated legal action against Air Canada, alleging negligence on the part of the airline’s employees, who purportedly failed to properly authenticate a fraudulent document presented by an unknown individual involved in the heist. Air Canada refuted these claims, asserting that the company had not insured the valuable cargo.

The arrests represent a significant development in a case that has captivated public attention and raised concerns about security measures at one of Canada’s busiest airports. As the investigation progresses, authorities are committed to bringing all those responsible for the brazen theft to justice and ensuring the safety and integrity of Canada’s air transportation infrastructure.
